The Fret King Eclat DBC has been designed in collaboration with Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell, of Bad Company and Humble Pie fame, and the end result is a no-nonsense, straight up instrument that oozes tone. Built using select mahogany for the neck and body, and rosewood for the fretboard, this guitar has a warm, beefy tone, rich in mid and low end sweetness. The body features two distinctive alterations from the classic LP Junior style; a thumb-cutaway to allow greater access to the higher frets, and a large chamfer cut into the front of the body. This allows the player’s forearm to rest comfortably on the guitar, making the Eclat DBC an exceptionally comfortable instrument.
The Eclat DBC’s hardware layout is very simple; a wraparound tailpiece, for greater tuning stability and sustain, two controls for volume and tone, and a single Wilkinson WP90 pickup. Based on the legendary P90 pickup, the PW90 sits between a humbucker and a single-coil in terms of sound, retaining the thickness and warmth of the humbucker, while adding a punchier, brighter edge. Interestingly, the WP90 is placed further from the bridge than would normally be done, which gives the overall tone more ‘Stratocaster spank’, particularly when the volume is dialled back.
The Fret King Eclat DBC is a modern twist on a classic instrument, and combines stylish looks with serious tonal prowess to produce a guitar that is at home with any style of playing, whether it be Blues or Hard Rock.
